Moving Meditation for Building Resilience
I was invited by the Integrative Nurse Coach Academy to create and facilitate a simple Moving Meditation to use our own body’s innate wisdom to build resilience for fellow Nurses and Healthcare Workers struggling through the ravages of COVID and beyond.
Your Body is With You
Your body is with you 100% of the time. In fact, you don’t go anywhere without it, although in my work I have noticed that many people have become disconnected to their physical sensations, living in a state of numb, and often ignoring nagging sensations, or even good sensations.
Moving Meditation Helps You Connect
A moving meditation helps you connect to the strength, power, fluidity, softness, ease and the many other sensations in your unique body.
When you come together with your physical body, your spirit, your mind, your emotions and your community to connect back to you and your authentic reality, it helps build your resilience.
This whole-being connection refocuses your attention on your own innate powers, strengths and gifts that open your precious soul to receive whatever it is you’d like to receive. I am thankful to you, for choosing to show up for yourself at this time to receive.
Together We Practice
So together, we will practice a few simple, mindful moving meditation patterns while bringing awareness to and being with your amazing, strong, graceful, joyful body in motion.
Before we go there, I wanted to touch on a few things you may consider as we journey through these next minutes together.
Human Beings are Meant to Move
Human beings are meant to move, yet so often we are sedentary, or we ignore, or discredit the importance of our body because we are lost in continuous thinking.
Mindful movement reminds us that we have a physical body that goes wherever we go. Our body in motion, or our body in stillness provides us an opportunity to acknowledge signals to manage our life.
All Emotions are Important Emotions to Feel
Movement can help to manage emotions like anxiety, or depression, or excitement, or sadness, or happiness or grief. All emotions are such important emotions to feel, yet when we are lost in thinking we can again, ignore or discredit or stifle feelings that arise.
For example, last week my 83 year old Mom called me up.
Let me tell you how bad-assed my Mom is… well, if you have a Mom, or you are a Mom, you know how bad-assed Mom’s are!
She’s been alone in Canada and I have yet to see her since COVID closed the border right after my dad and her love of 57 years passed away.
She called me with a request. Could I say a specific nightly prayer for the world? She was fervent about it. I asked her, “Mom, can you tell me more about why you want me to say that specific prayer?”
The World Needs It
She was silent. Which called me to follow her lead, I was silent. I could hear her stifling tears. Finally, she choked out “because the world needs it”, followed quickly by, “I am sorry.”
So I said, “Mom, why are you sorry?” She bluntly said, “because I am tough.”
We Are All Trying to Be Tough
And we are all trying to be tough… especially now… but what does tough get you?
What does stifling emotion get you?
Well, it may get you disconnection to your heart, and disconnection to your soul, your desires and your needs.
Reconnected with Your Whole Self
When you choose moments to become reconnected with your whole self- your body, mind and spirit, environment, and be in the NOW, you can reconnect to yourself in a deeper, more compassionate way.
This moving meditation is a tangible practice to allow you to be in the moment with the sensations you are feeling now, and then use your innate ability to connect to your body to feel the emotions. ALL OF THEM.
And then release them.
So let’s begin….
When you click on the video below, together we’ll practice connecting to 3 different movements and then gently bring them all together, so you are a moving meditation, with ease, with joy, with love, self-compassion, grace, whatever you hope to receive.
You are loved, Nicole
ps… here are Alicia Keys beautiful lyrics to ‘A Good Job’
You're the engine that makes all things go
And you're always in disguise, my hero
I see your light in the dark
Smile in my face when we all know it's hard
There's no way to ever pay you back
Bless your heart, know I love you for that
Honest and selfless
I don't know if this helps it, but
Good job
You're doing a good job, a good job
You're doing a good job
Don't get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter, matter, matter, yeah
You're doing a good job, a good job
You're doing a good job
Don't get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter, matter, matter, yeah
Six in the morning
And soon as you walk through that door
Everyone needs you again
The world's out of order
It's not as sound when you're not around
All day on your feet, hard to
Keep that energy, I know
When it feels like the end of the road
You don't let go
You just press forward
You're the engine that makes all things go
Always in disguise, my hero
I see a light in the dark
Smile in my face when we all know it's hard
There is no way to ever pay you back
Bless your heart, know I love you for that
Honest and selfless
I don't know if this helps it but
Good job
You're doing a good job, a good job (Good job)
You're doing a good job
Don't get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter, matter, matter, yeah
(Yeah, that's a good job)
You're doing a good job, a good job (Good job)
You're doing a good job
Don't get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter, matter, matter, yeah
The mothers, the fathers, the teachers that reach us
Strangers to friends that show up in the end
From the bottom to the top, the listeners that hear us
This for you, you make me fearless
You're doing a good job, a good job (Oh)
You're doing a good job
Don't get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter, matter, matter, yeah
