Scientists used to say that if your mom has diabetes, you’ll likely get diabetes because you have her genes.
This type of information likely left you feeling hopeless.
This Concept has Changed
But, this concept has changed. Scientists now know that although you can’t change the genes you were born with, you can control how your genes express themselves by your habits and daily behaviors, or your lifestyle.
This newer science is called epigenetics.

Things like, sleep or lack of it, exercise (or none), the food you eat, your social connections, your stress levels, your working habits, if you smoke or vape, or if you live in an environmentally toxic area, or not. “Individual genetic background and environmental factors are intertwined to lifestyle in determining the health status of individuals”.
THE THINGS YOU DO, CAN TURN ON OR TURN OFF GENE EXPRESSION
So, the things you do (or don’t do), even if you have genes that say you might develop diabetes, or Alzheimer’s disease, can turn on, or turn off the gene expression of those diseases.

You have the power to slow down (or speed up) the aging process of your brain and body just by choosing to be active (or not), getting a good night’s sleep (or not), eating nourishing foods (or not), choosing to continue to learn something new (or not), or learn and practice ways to reduce your stress (or not), or learning about environmental toxin exposure and how to reduce it (or not), or learning how to move your body (or not). The power is yours.
