I'm still startled by the following research from a US study that reported 66% of women over the age of 74 could NOT lift objects weighing more than 10 pounds.
The article was published in 2000, yes, that is 24 years ago, and yet we are still seeing declines in women's strength and movement abilities that are going unnoticed, and to me this is unacceptable for us!!!
Can You Imagine?
Can you imagine yourself being unable to lift a 10 pound bag of sugar when you are 74?!
Me neither.... and....
It's Unbelievable!
It's difficult to believe and yet, women's strength declines faster than men's and we can expect to lose 24-36% of our dynamic muscular strength between the ages of 50 and 70 (Rhodes et al., 2000).
NOOOOOO! I don't want that to happen to you and I don't want it happening to me or to ANYONE!
This is one of the reasons I created the Menopause Movement Mission- to create a safe space for women in mid-life to explore movement in their bodies as they are today- not 1 year ago, or 10 years ago. TODAY!
Some of you have never picked up a dumbbell or have ever tried a fitness class... YET!
And some of you have been working out your entire life, and are witnessing your body changing right before your eyes. The things you used to do to keep in shape are no longer working and your body composition may be shifting towards a shape you don’t want to see. AND, you energy stores may be depleting faster than you expected, leaving you wondering…. What can I do?!
There are things you can do! And, we make it fun, because we do it with women just like us in the Menopause Movement Mission.
Want to do something about your own Muscular Strength, vitality and shape, and do it right alongside amazing women like you?
