Tuning into your magical body as a mid-life woman is so important to maintain independence, safety and joy in your beautiful, strong and capable body.
Take a moment, right now, to flash back to when you were a kid. Recall what games you played, and how you played them. I’m recalling a time when I was about 9 years old, I’d swiftly and gracefully climb the roof of an old barn and hang out in the trees with my girlfriends.
We’d sit on the roof, or the branches and giggle and tell stories for hours. I didn’t even think about climbing or sitting precariously, I just did it, with ease and confidence. One hundred percent immersed in the freedom and limitlessness of my body.
What story do you remember?
As You’ve Aged, Your Life Got Busier
Flash forward to your life now. As you’ve gained more experience your life got busier with family, work, grandkids, and responsibilities, and somewhere along the way you lost the ease and confidence for living confidently in your body, like you did when you were a kid.
Plus, there’s so many more conveniences that have forced you away from moving your body naturally- things like escalators, computers, cars, and TVs. These conveniences have become so normal, that it’s like you’re just moving your brain from one place to the other, and your body is just going along for the ride.
When you do move your body, often you do it without thinking about it- it is unconscious. WOW! I bet you’re grateful your body can move unconsciously!
Years of Living in a Chair-Bound World
The only trouble is, because of years of living in a chair bound, mechanical-convenient and STRESS filled world, your body becomes progressively tighter, with less fluidity and less vivaciousness, and more aches, pains and stagnancy.
Your body stops feeling connected to itself and its abilities. You lose range of motion, strength, power, speed, balance, and what’s potentially worse, conviction and confidence in your body. And that is not good at all.
Simply moving more, in a variety of ways, can do so much to remedy the things that come with age and stagnancy.
You can Reconnect to Your Body
And you can reconnect to your body. You can become consciously aware and engaged in your beautiful, magical body as you move.
Otherwise, it’s just more of the same as you are now. And you are ready for something different.
When you move with intention and specificity, with deliberation and consciousness, you open yourself up to more possibility. Plus, you’ll be safer and feel more connected to the powers of your physical body.
So, how do you begin?
Check in with Your Amazing Body
Check in with your amazing body throughout the day. That’s a great way to start!
Like any habit, body awareness improves as you practice and reinforce it, but not in an obsessive way.
Body awareness is simply paying attention to your body, and having gratitude for what it can do! It also means noticing ways to help your body feel and function better.
Are you moving with control and intention? Can you feel your feet? Which foot can you feel most? Does your body feel tight? How can you choose something to relieve some of that tension? What do you choose? Why?
The more you begin to treat your body with gratitude, with love and support for all it does for you, the better you become at caring for your body, yes, and also yourself.
All you need to do is begin. Say yes to you, now.
