Some of us get scared away from the word ‘meditation’, mostly because we think in order to do meditation ‘right’ we have to sit perfectly still, cross legged and ‘ohmmmm’.
Holy shmokes! If it were true that in order to do meditation ‘right’ I had to sit cross legged with candles all around me, inevitably my legs would cramp and something would catch on fire! ! :)
Meditation is spending time with yourself
Truth is, meditation is just spending time with yourself. During meditation, maybe you’ll try and focus, or breathe deeply, maybe you’ll try and tune out the world despite all the chatter in your head, or maybe you’ll just sit in silence for a few moments. But, did you know you are also meditating when you are dancing, gardening, being fully present with your child or being still in prayer?
Trust me
Trust me. Any time, you feel like you are in a flow, you are meditating ‘correctly’. And even if it doesn’t quite feel perfect, you are still doing it right.
Dispel the scariness of meditation
I created a little slide show presentation hoping to dispel some of the scariness of meditation. In this less than 20 minute video, we’ll discuss some different ways to meditate, some of the science that shows how meditation or awareness practice, or mindfulness can help, and then we’ll explore a few ways to try meditation in a stress-free environment- your own!
If you’d like to explore other ways of breathing, read my blog, “de-stress with breathing techniques”.
Let me know how it goes in a comment here on my blog.
